U2 - Where the Streets Have No Name
Still a great video, one of U2’s best songs, and one of the best album openings ever. Sure, Bono’s full of himself, but that’s Bono. The real star of this song is Edge. That guitar sound gets me every time.
Hat tip to TechCrunch, of all places.
Great Mac tip.

William Shatner - Common People (original by Pulp/Jarvis Cocker)
This is one of my all-time favourite covers. This isn’t the usual Shatner camp. This is a great rock song featuring wonderful 2nd vocals by Joe Jackson.
“Townes Van Zandt is the best songwriter in the whole world and I’ll stand on Bob Dylan’s coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that.” Steve Earle
“I’ve met Bob Dylan’s bodyguards and if Steve Earle thinks he can stand on Bob Dylan’s coffee table, he’s sadly mistaken.” Townes Van Zandt

Pretty funny.
Bill Maher, in this video on The Year In Ridiculous Republicans.
Brilliant commercial advocating gay marriage from Ireland. It doesn’t get much simpler than this.
“Here was a dude who carried himself like Brando, and Dylan, and Elvis. If John Steinbeck could sing, if Van Morrison could ride a Harley-Davidson …. It was something new, too. He was the first whiff of Scorsese, the first hint of Patti Smith, Elvis Costello and the Clash. He was the end of long hair, brown rice and bell bottoms. He was the end of the 20-minute drum solo. It was good night, Haight- Ashbury; hello, Asbury Park.” Bono
Can’t wait for the new Frightened Rabbit album. What’s still unclear is if it’s being produced by Peter Katis. Katis produced both Midnight Organ Fight and The National’s Boxer, two of my all-time favourite albums. With these albums he carved out his signature: big, full sound. To my ears, these two albums have much in common and I chalk that up to his production. Hope he’s on board.
New music from Frightened Rabbit!
A video for “Swim Until You Can’t See Land”, the title track (and apparent first single) from their upcoming record, landed in my inbox this morning, and I couldn’t not share it. As a big huge fan of their last record, The Midnight Organ Fight, I can’t wait to see what they do this time around.
(stream two tracks from the new record here)
Uh wow.

Steve Earle - Willin’ (Little Feat cover)
Man, I love this song. From his Sidetracks album.
And if you give me
Weed, whites, and wine
And you show me a sign
I’ll be willin’
To be movin’
Fanfarlo - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea (NMH cover) You say Fanfarlo, I say fantastic! London is a treasure chest of things to do and the only regret I have about visiting this vibrant city is not having enough time to explore it.... Mumford & Sons - Awake My Soul Mumford & Sons - But My Head Told My Heart Bijan posted Little Lion Man, I’m throwing in a second one here. Great band from London (though they... Destroyer - Bay of Pigs To call this an epic song would be a disservice. It’s more like a layered drama with a dozen interweaving story lines. The... Has It Come To This - The Streets - Original Pirate Material this was some of the most original material i’d ever heard when this record first came... and more incredible: he had been banging around for 3 or 4 years in heavy Cream-style blues rock bands before finding his place as seen here
