Fuel/Friends favorites of 2011 | Fuel/Friends... →
Heather Brown is one of my favourite music bloggers and she’s just posted her Best of 2011 list. There are two here that are among my faces of the year, and there’s a bunch of stuff that’s new to me. A couple that I really like on first listen: Frank Turner and Typhoon.

– Everything about this story is fantastic and keeps getting better. Rather than hoard the vast new profit from the digital download sales, CK said he plans to split it up among various people and organizations. The comedian explained that $250,000 would pay for the standup special and $250,000 would...

I had a big year. I celebrated one full year in LA. I got married. I left the music business. I finished business school. Big changes, high highs. I’ve been…

Louis CK was on Jimmy Fallon last night. He gave an update on his Live at the Beacon video. In only 10 days he’s sold $1mm. At $5, that’s 200k copies sold. And you can tell he’s uncomfortable making that much from it, so he’s given a good chunk of it away: $250k in bonuses to his staff and $280k to charity. A great story.

– The story of comedian Louis CK selling his self-produced standup video direct to fans for $5 is encouraging. Like Radiohead selling In Rainbows for a pay-what-you-want price, it demonstrates a new, better relationship between artists, their art and their fans. And he’s funny as hell, so go...
